ABOUT US
StarWarsHolidaySpecial.com is devoted to exploring the history and behind-the-scenes of the once-forgotten TV event, The Star Wars Holiday Special. This site is completely unofficial and is not affiliated with Lucasfilm or CBS in any way. All characters and their likenesses are © Lucasfilm
When I saw The Star Wars Holiday Special on my grandparents’ big console TV (shown above running Pong!) back on November 17th 1978, it was my first Star Wars film. I was already a huge Star Wars fan, but though I already had toys and trading cards and had read the comic books and novel, I had not seen the actual Star Wars movie yet. So it had a profound effect on me…one that eventually turned into an obsession, once it became clear that the Holiday Special was never to be aired again.
Since the Holiday Special had disappeared without a trace and nobody seemed to remember seeing it, I started trying to find any evidence I could that it existed. Photos, articles, newspaper ads…anything that mentioned it or was related to it. Over the years I started to wonder what I would do with all of this stuff.
Then when the World Wide Web came along, I realized I had my answer: a website devoted to the subject! I put everything I had together, and in November of 2003, as a tribute to the 25th anniversary of the show’s airing, I launched this site…with a lot of help from friends and collaborators who did website design, supplied information and photographs, and came up with ideas and advice. Many thanks to everyone who has helped out over the years: you are the reason the site has been such a success.
Since that time the site has grown and become the go-to central repository for everything related to The Star Wars Holiday Special. In the meantime, I have had the privilege of doing panel appearances at various conventions, being interviewed for newspapers, websites, and podcasts, and even being the subject of a special interview with StarWars.com for their 30th anniversary tribute to the Holiday Special in 2008.
On November 17th 2018 for the 40th anniversary of The Star Wars Holiday Special, the site has been re-launched with a new design and new photos, articles, and information along with content carried over from the original site. If you would like to see the old site design, you can still view it by clicking below:
As we go forward, new things about the one-off 1978 TV show always seem to turn up…and StarWarsHolidaySpecial.com will continue to be the place to find out about it. Check back for new content, and be sure to subscribe to our Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram pages.
